Field-Of-View-Model

Limited field of view
A product developer encounters design problems on a daily basis. He or she can never see all possible solutions at once. The 'Field-Of-View Model ®' is a graphic representation of this insight.

Widen or reverse the field of view
When we encounter a problem we could widen our field of view (generate more possible solutions, for instance with a morpholical overview) or we could change the direction of our field of view. Not necessarily forward (towards a solution) but also backwards (for instance with Problem Statements or Root Cause Analysis) or sideways (for instance with TRIZ or ASIT). We could also zoom out from part level, to system level, project level or even market level.

Adjust the field of view
A design problem can be interpreted and described in various ways. This can reveal alternative paths to follow. The same is true for the end result. The expectations on the end result could also be adjusted, allowing the problem to be obviated.

Field-Of-View Model ® as a framework for other creativity methods
The Field-Of-View Model ® is used as a framework for other creativity methods. TRIZ, ASIT, morphological overviews, Ishikawa-diagrams... these are all different methods that can cause certain movements in the FOV Model ®.
